9 Months: Not the best end to summer...

Hey y'all...

My household is sick.  No bueno.  Well, except for Miles and me; somehow we've evaded the yuckies, but Leif has been in and out, and hubs has been out for a while now.  Please send him get well vibes-I think stress didn't help because he did get better for a few days, but then took a turn for the worse and he's so down and out that he had to leave work early yesterday.  His car is sick too-it's in the shop; let's hope that isn't expensive as we are moving in a few weeks!

Let's recap as always... (and warning, I should probably just change the name of my blog to "Leif's Adventures"):

Wednesday, September 10

Nothing spectacular except:
Bath time: hubs found a nice resemblance of the face Leif was making.  I think it's pretty good!
Friday, September 12

Leif isn't always smiling...this was taken before dinner.  When he's fussy, he's REAL fussy.
Sunday, September 14

So for almost all the weekends in August and September, the weather always skyrocketed.   I think this past weekend was the only weekend where it didn't get above the 80s.  So we've been hermits, not wanting to brave the crazy heat.  This weekend is supposed to go back up and be at around 106!!!  It's the beginning of October for crying out loud!
Leif started getting a fever Saturday night, and Sunday he was definitely sick.  We stayed in and then Sunday evening he threw up all over me.  Twice.  It was gross.  I had to get into the bath with him both times.  Poor little guy.

Monday, September 15

Monday morning Leif's fever broke, but I stayed home with him just to make sure he got all better while hubs went off to jury duty.  He was also ill at this time, but he had to go.  I tried to get work done when Leif took his naps (of course on that day I had all these deadlines for faculty contracts, and it was a frantic day trying to access work files, but I did it!).  Leif was definitely on the mend.

Our little man definitely felt better-instead of wanting to just lay with us, he was up and playing with a smile on his face.
Saturday, September 20

We were invited to my friend's 1-year old birthday party close to my work, which was fairy themed.  Um, we aren't the best at dressing up, so we didn't.  As soon as we parked/arrived, Leif started tearing up and his nose started running...I freaked out and thought he had pink eye, but it wasn't getting all goopy.  Conclusion: something flew/got in his eye and it was trying to flush it out...but he was still in good spirits.

It's amazing at what enthralls him-nothing is in this paper cup.

Digging into the diaper bag.  Can you see his red right eye?  Poor little man!

Having fun despite the crazy eye

My boys!

GO SEAHAWKS!

I think Leif was fascinated by football on TV while playing with his daddy's beard/mouth.  Multitasker!
Tuesday, September 23

While hubs was in class, Leif and I had fun with a paper bag...

Thursday, September 25

So...it's still hard to break Leif of the bad habit that is sleeping in our bed.  But when I went to get ready, Leif repositioned himself so that he was laying next to hubs.  It was a precious moment.
Saturday, September 27

APARTMENT HUNTING DAY!  Hubs was still not feeling all that well, but stress of finding a new place probably enhanced his ill-feelings.  We had to search though; lease is up soon, and I didn't want to take the chance of some of the apartments/houses I had found/made appointments with to disappear.  The first place we checked was a house that I happened to just drive by on my way home one day.  Some great places are not advertised online (unfortunately!), so I wanted to look around and see if there were any signs. This HOUSE was amazing.  Yes, a house in California at a price that we could barely afford!  It was owned by an older man who owned another little house on this large property...and he happened to live in a house on the same property.  Anyway, it wasn't huge, but it was two beds, one bath; washer and dryer were in the kitchen; and it had a covered outdoor area with a sort of picnic table/benches, then a huge storage/workshop area behind that.  And it had a lemon tree, lime tree and orange tree.  It was really nice.  But he had a strict no-pet policy, even though he had a cat wandering around.  So we took an application, didn't say anything, and went on our way.

We drove by a few other places that we just weren't impressed by, then ended up at my work for a pit stop/Starbucks break.  Then back on the road to look at a place that we didn't like at all; it was a four-plex in a huge area with tons of other four-plexes, all privately owned.  The unit we looked at was the largest, on the second floor.  When we stepped outside, it smelled of cooking fish...bad fish (sorry mom, but it really reminded me of my childhood!).  People were sketchy, and the place wasn't really cleaned properly-someone definitely smoked in the place.  We took off quickly after being shown that unit...

We decided to get some food then drove to our last appointment for the day.  I was hesitant because the complex received really low ratings on a bunch of different websites, but it was in our price range and a friend of mine (actually, the photos of the 1-year old birthday party were in the park directly behind the apartment complex!) lives there and loves it-her only complaint is that there's not enough visitor spots.  The apartment we wanted was still occupied and won't be ready until the 23rd-the day before our lease is up!  And it was on hold, but we could be put on the wait list.  So we toured an apartment that was very similar, and it looked great-two beds, two baths with balcony as it was on the second floor.  We can only afford the "classic"; the remodels feature granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, but that was out of our price range.  So we put our names on the wait list; but as soon as we drove away, they called us back saying the guy took back his deposit so we could apply for it.  We were on our way to the house to check it out one more time and to plea with the guy about the no pet policy...

When we arrived, he had an older gentleman with him who happened to live with him and his wife...okay.  He was a man of few words, and asked us how our search went-I think he was probing to see if his price was comparable.  It was definitely a good deal, but when I asked about the pet policy and inquired if he'd consider a bigger deposit, he wouldn't budge.  I told him we had a friendly pup, but still wouldn't budge.  We left discouraged, but then we thought it was probably for the better; he lived within earshot, and the rules he had on his application seemed like if we made a peep he'd be an angry old man.  So we put our deposit on the apartment and within seconds the staff member who showed us around called and said we were approved.  He was such a nice guy!  So folks, we have a new place!  And it's SO much closer to my work!!!  YAY!  No more hour and a half commute for this lady!

Our new home soon!  Well, not in the fountain, but this is just a nice view of part of the complex
This was taken right before viewing our new apartment...he was a champ that day, in and out of the car looking at new places!

When we got home, he had a grand ole time playing in a box!

Sunday, September 28

Race day!  I woke up super early and met my friend/co-worker at his place since it was down the road from the 5K.  We picked up our bibs and waited for a good 45 minutes before the race started.  Oh, and there was a raffle-Michael put his ticket in for a duffel bag, I put mine in for macarons (there were about eight boxes up for raffle; I found one without ticket stubs and put it in).  Finally the race started...holy smokes it had soooo many hills, and a big steep one right from the beginning!  This was the first race where I had to stop and walk a couple times...wah waaaah.  But, I finished with a pretty good time, and for my age group I was smack dab in the middle.  Michael and I both finished in the top 30 of male/female, so we felt pretty good!  AND I won the macarons, woohoo!

Monday, September 29

Leif had his nine month check-up yesterday, so I went into work late.  Sunday night was rough though-he woke up at 4am and his nose was all clogged; I sucked out so much mucus it was gross.  He also threw up on me since he choked on the mucus-it wasn't filled with food, but it was mucusy.  I think that was grosser.  He didn't fall back asleep until 6am-I was so happy I didn't have to go to work, or else I would have been grumpy.  We slept all the way until 8am, and hubs already left for work, so it was frantic trying to get ready and keeping him occupied in the hallway, but I managed to do it!

Getting weighed/head measured.  He only gained half a pound since his last checkup, but he grew 2.5 inches!

Keeping him occupied until the doc came in was a challenge, but I was able to do it!
I dropped him off at daycare and he was the only one-apparently all the other babies were sick!  After work when I picked him up, our daycare lady said he was actually sick, not teething!  He didn't want to be put down, just held all day; he didn't nap, and he didn't want to eat.  Poor guy.  His voice was also an octave lower!  So both my boys were sick yesterday.  Hubs slept on the couch while Leif slept in the crib then in bed with me since he wasn't feeling well...at some point in the night I woke up and Leif had his head on my stomach and was splayed sideways.  Sigh.  I know, I know, we have to break this habit, but we can't really train him until he has his own room!  I discussed the sleep training with our pediatrician; she really understood our predicament as she had to do the same with her first child, and she understood about doing anything to get your baby to sleep since she had to wake up early for work too.  But she said it's going to be harder the older he gets/longer he has the bad habit, so we discussed how to sleep train him.  Oh boy, it's going to be rough.

And here I am today...I was late because I didn't want to wake up Leif, and waited until the last second to wake up hubs to lay in bed with him. And I forgot a million things so I had to run up and grab everything.  All the faculty were here for a meeting-I felt like on the Walk of Shame coming into my office.  Like I said, I really can't wait until I'm closer to work!
